ON Thursday Hibiscus Coast Municipality mayor Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu turned the sod for the St Michael’s Bay road rehabilitation project which will cost just over R4 million and which will create 25 jobs.

A new parking lot will be built with sidewalks leading to the beachfront.

Mqwebu said she has no doubt that upon completion the project will be “a beauty” as the construction company awarded this tender has worked with the municipality before.

“I am sure that Margate Constructors will do a good job in rehabilitating this road as we have had many complaints about the potholes and how critical this road has been.”

Similar projects are in progress in Port Shepstone and Margate.

The project is due to be completed in the five months with the official opening on completion.

Exco member Cllr Sipho Dlamalala said he is happy about this project as it will be a contribution towards tourist attraction
