ANOTHER Zamokuhle Taxi Association member was gunned down on Friday on his way to Johannesburg.

This follows after six people were shot dead in taxi-related violence that had started in a Port Shepstone taxi rank, the route of which went to Durban.

“On Friday the driver left Port Shepstone at around 5am. It was the first taxi out and the driver was dropping off a passenger at the Jacob’s bridge. When he stopped, guys in a white VW Golf 6 stopped next to the taxi, rolled down their windows and fired three shots at the taxi,” said a Zamokuhle member.

The driver, Samukele Ngcobo, is in a critical condition.

After last Wednesday’s incident, 11 suspects were arrested at the scene in Durban.

All appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The men have been charged with public violence, murder and attempted murder.

The association’s spokesperson, who didn’t want to divulge his name, said he feared he might be next on the “hit list”.

Department of Transport MEC Willies Mchunu has condemned the killings.

“We condemn these senseless and cold-blooded murders in the strongest possible terms,and#034; said Mchunu

He said law enforcement agencies had been instructed to “work around the clock” to bring the perpetrators to book.

He urged anyone with information to report it to the police immediately
