Toll roads only help ‘fat cats’

2015-07-23 06:02

I HAD to laugh at your modestly understated headline in the last issue.

I lived in Amanzimtoti for five years and know Ted Holden who led the opposition to the toll roads. No one wants toll gates.

There is no one who does not deny we need the infrastructure. Why do we pay fuel levies, car licences and driver’s licences?

What about VAT? Our taxes are the highest in the world for what we, especially the poor, get nothing in return.

Toll gates are not helping the poor or the very poor or any industry. The only ones helped are the fat cats on the gravy train.

We hope the editor will respect the will of the people and use the newspaper’s voice in opposition to this disgraceful abuse of power by the government.

I also enjoyed the gentleman’s letter of thanks giving (Thank you God), I so agree with him.

God bless you and your staff.
