Top art at Margate museum

THE Margate Art Museum is hosting an exhibition which runs until 1 May.

Themed The Ensemble, the exhibition was launched on 27 March. At the launch was Hibiscus Municipality Mayor Cynthia Mqwebu, founder of K-Cap Edmund Mhlongo, social entrepreneur Baba Amani Olubanjo Buntu, Department of Arts and Culture representatives and councillors.

Buntu said he was impressed by what he saw.

and#034;Curator Siyakudumisa Sotsu and his team have done an incredible job in fusing art and entrepreneurship. It is encouraging to see how the communities and villages around Margate support t young innovators - and they have some seriously talents right here. Iand#039;m humbled and inspired.and#034;

Siyakudumisa says the launch and the exhibition is the end product of a year-long planning process.

and#034;After researching and communicating with local artists we reached a resolution that we should create a platform for local artists to express themselves and reach audiences and markets so as to grow the local art industry. It was from these meetings that the launch and the exhibition ensued.and#034;

He said that the exhibition was part of the Department of Arts and Cultureand#039;s effort to channel local artists to compete provincially and nationally.

Children from The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-day Saints Sunday school visited the museum on Saturday and their sentiment of the exhibition was that it is and#034;amazingand#034;.

and#034;It was our first time here actually and weand#039;ve learnt so much. People can be so artistic you know. Itand#039;s amazing how one can create something like this out of sometimes nothing,and#034; said teacher Zeni Ngele
