THE two men who were arrested last Wednesday in connection with the murder of eight family members, appeared in Turton Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The case was postponed to 28 November for a bail application and the accused remain in custody.

All eight people belonged to the Mncwabe family who were attacked at their homestead in Msinsini, outside Hibberdene. Seven of them sustained head injuries and one was set alight in his rondavel.

Another family member, who initially survived the attack, died in hospital on Saturday.

The suspects claim that the victims were practising witchcraft.

The incident took place just after midnight on Wednesday.

“The suspects allegedly accused the family of practising witchcraft. The arrested suspects were found in possession of blood-stained clothes and shoes,” said Hawks spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

He said a jacket, which one of the suspects wore, was found inside a pit toilet.
