CONSTABLES Samu Armstrong Ndovela and Bongani Chiliza from Port Shepstone Tactical Response Team (TRT) recently arrested two men in Umzinto for dealing in drugs.

Azaad Sheik (30) and Iqbal Mohomed Sheik (38) of Gandhinagar township in Umzinto appeared in court on Wednesday, 15 April. The case was remanded.

The accused were released on bail of R1 000 each. The drugs are to be forwarded to the forensic science laboratory for analysis.

While performing detached duties in the Umzinto area, the police officers observed a white VW Polo driving towards Riverside Park.

“The two occupants behaved suspiciously so the policemen pulled them over at Riverside Park and searched the vehicle,” said police spokesperson Captain Vincent Pandarum.

They found 300 mandrax tablets in the vehicle and arrested both occupants. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be around R21 000.

Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, KZN Provincial Commissioner, praised the members for being alert and arresting the accused.

“These members have shown that vigilance pays off. I urge them to continue with the good work and clean up our streets and rid our communities of drug peddlers. The community of Umzinto can expect more combined drug raids and crime prevention operations in the area by the local police and Port Shepstone TRT,” said Ngobeni.
