Ugu’s longest serving employee

2015-04-30 14:54

“IT takes a lot of hard work and dedication serving the community for 43 years,” said Anthor-Raju Raju who has worked for Ugu District Municipality for more than four decades.

Raju started working for the municipality in 1972.

“I started working as a meter reader when the organisation was called Water Co-operation. After some time the name was changed to the Joint Services Board before becoming Ugu District Municipality.”

Raju said he has never had it hard as an employee because he enjoyed his work.

His secret he said is enjoying what you do, especially if its serving your community.

“There were challenging times especially when clients fight with you for their meter reading being high. My biggest weapon was calming the clients down and assisting them with what they needed to be assisted with.”

Raju said he feels that God has given him a chance as most of his colleagues have since died.

Raju is now a retired person.

“I retired at the end of March, but after two weeks the municipality asked me to return to work on contract,” he said.

Raju said he is prepared to work with the municipality again because he loves his job
