Warriors to play in Premier League

2015-09-24 06:00

THE South Coast Warriors have been promoted to play in the Premier League in 2016 and 2017.

The NRU decided to expand the Premier League to 11 teams and the Warriors together with the Jaguars and Newcastle have been moved up.

“There are great opportunities on the cards for the club and we are all looking forward to it,” said Warriors head coach, Christo Henderson.

Having set a goal three years ago to be back in the Premier League within five years, Henderson said the team was surprised by the news at first but also very excited to have reached their goal sooner than expected.

The SKZN chairman broke the news to the team after he attended the KZN Rugby Union executive meeting on Monday night.

“There’s lots of hard work ahead of us in the next couple of months,” he said.

Henderson added that it was a huge step up and it was a totally different level of competition.

“Although it is different, we have been doing well for the last two years against premier league teams and it will help to get the boys to think and play better rugby,” he said. - Supplied
