WhatsApp group for Ward 17

2015-05-21 06:00

THE Marburg community is urged to join the newly formed WhatsApp group that has recently been initiated.

The group serves to address the crime situation and issues pertaining to service delivery.

Dinesh Pillay said the idea came about after residents in Friesland Avenue voiced their concern about the increase in crime in the street.

“The Marburg-Merlewood ANC branch decided to assist. The WhatsApp group will alert residents about suspicious activity and will serve as a platform to better service delivery.”

In certain areas residents have literally become whistles on crime.

“When someone in danger blows the whistle it alerts others close by,” said Pillay.

He said the SAPS has also been “on the ball” since the WhatsApp group was formed. A response time of 15 minutes has been recorded thus far and according to Pillay, residents have subsequently started to feel less vulnerable.

With regards to service delivery, problems reported on the group are logged at the Hibiscus Coast or Ugu District municipalities, depending on the complaint.

A reference number is then issued so the complainant can keep track of the progress.

“Meetings will be held every three months for residents to voice their concerns and discuss ways of improving the group and the Ward 17 area,” he said.
