THE first Wild Coast Sun Drift Expo takes place on Saturday, 29 August at the Wild Coast Sun Casino and Resort. The event is expected to rank as one of the biggest events on the KwaZulu-Natal motoring calendar. Some of the events planned for the day include full circuit drifting in a purpose-built track in one of the complex parking lots, a Car Show ’n Shine, Car Sound Off and “suicide rides” for spectators. The day will start off with The Puren Plant Hire andamp; GT Logistics team consisting of Puren brothers Brendan and Gavin burning rubber around with high speeds in tandem and single-drift expos. They will be followed around the track by 10 local and national drifters. To ensure the crowds get up close and personal with the drivers and their cars, suicide rides will be on offer at R150 per ride to give spectators a real drift experience with professional drivers in professional drift cars. Elite Car Customs will be hosting the Show ‘n Shine and Sound Off competitions. Fans can again get up close with some of the most pimped out cars on the South Coast and KZN. Each one will be vying for bragging rights as top eye-and-ear candy winners. Car clubs like the Polo GTi Club, the VW GTI Club, the Opel OPC, Ford ST Club, Toyota Twincam Club, and others will also be making appearances and with owners displaying their pride and joy.

To keep the young ones entertained, a full children’s area will be set up. Catering will be taken care of by Tiagos and the Wild Coast Sun’s catering department. A beer tent, courtesy of SAB, will be set up up to keep throats of older patrons quenched. The event will be featured on Petrol Heads on Ignition TV – DStv Channel 189 and there will be a chance to mingle with presenter Rikki Brest and the Ignition TV crew. The event will also be featured in Gas magazine.

The event starts at 10am. Six readers stand a chance of winning a suicide ride in a drift car.
