Woman’s mobility wish comes true

2015-08-27 06:00

A MERLEWOOD woman says she will finally be able to do things in life which people often take for granted, such as go to a mall, shop with her children and visit friends.

Iris Goldstone (66), who suffers from osteoarthritis, was given a wheelchair recently.

Ravi Pillay, MEC for Human Settlements handed over the wheelchair at Hibiscus Coast Municipality.

Due to the condition, Goldstone’s mobility is restricted and she is often left lying in bed in extreme pain.

“I’m not able to go into a shop and visit many places because I can’t walk. I have to sit in the car and wait for my children,” she said.

Two weeks ago Goldstone was at an event Pillay where handed over title deeds to community members.

Goldstone approached him and asked if it was possible for him to arrange a donation of a wheelchair.

She was ecstatic when she heard that Pillay and others had made it possible.

He said arranging the donation took longer than expected as the wheelchair had to be custom-made, but was happy that Goldstone’s wish has finally come true.

“I am so grateful. I am so excited because I will be able to do things with my children and enjoy outings,” said Goldstone.

She thanked everyone who was involved in making the donation possible
