Women in Business gala dinner held

2015-08-27 06:00

HIBISCUS Coast Woman in Business held a gala dinner at the Port Shepstone Country Club on Friday.

The dinner was the first one held by the Hibiscus Coast Women in Business Forum (HCWBF), in celebration of its first year of existence.

Forum president, Zoleka Langa, said in the past year they have held various training courses to empower members and non-members.

At the dinner HCWBF gave out certificates which course attendants received from one of the courses - financial business - provided by Nedbank.

Guest speaker, Dr Vusumzi Kalala, spoke about the difference women in business have made and continue to make and how they contribute to the economy.

Kalala encouraged women to make the most of such opportunities which were not there before when women in the past marched the streets to be heard.

“Nowadays things are easier to access. If you want anything done, and done right then, give it to a woman,” said Kalala.

HCWBF president said the forum is not a “gravy train”, it’s a platform for women in business to come together and assist one another to grow.

She said the forum offers opportunities to smaller business owners and teaches them how to establish a business and manage them.

“The forum looks at offering business mentoring, training, opportunities for growth, networking and many more things that members may need or offer,” said Langa. Langa said they invited those not in the forum to join and help empower others and share ideas in order to make their input visible in the economy, no matter how small.

Langa thanked those who attended the gala dinner and madam mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu, for creating this platform for women
