NON-PROFIT organisation, Philasande Projects, in the Mzumbe Fairview area, is run by women who are trying to eradicate drug and substance abuse among the youth there.
One of the organisation founders, Vie Msweli, said the organisation is under a tremendous amount of pressure financially and is seeking assistance which will help develop skills in their community.
The organisation currently has over 100 members - 30 primary-school children, 20 youth, 27 middle-aged women and 50 gogos.
Msweli said they have approached companies like Coca-Cola, and the public, to assist them financially with reading material for their book club which they will soon be launching.
“We have sent out letters requesting donations of any sort, but more especially funding and educational material, to keep our youth and primary school children busy, and so keep them away from social ills.”
The public and the business sector is also asked to donate wool for the elderly women to make blankets, scarfs and crafts, and so on, which they will sell to generate income.
Over the past few weeks the NPO received its first batch of book donations which hopefully, will encourage reading and improve vocabulary of book-club members.
If anyone is able to donate, phone Msweli on 076 977 8479 or Mrs Cele on 071 783 9295
