SUID-Natal Martial Arts Academy’s Tyler Hogan (12) was part of the team that jetted to India where he took part in the 8th Commonwealth Karate Championships in New Delhi last weekend.

The tournament held from 18 to 20 September was attended by the top karateka from Commonwealth countries and there was exceptional talent on display.

Tyler participated in the U14 category in both kumite and kata divisions. He obtained a fifth place in the under 40kg kumite division, narrowly missing out on a bronze medal. He was also placed 11th in the kata division.

“This has been an exceptional experience for Tyler to participate in such a prestigious international karate competition and the experience and memories of the tour will carry Tyler forward in karate in the years to come,” said Sensei Coenie Vrey, Ugu Karate chairman. - Supplied.
