Youth show an interest film-writing careers

MANY youths attended a short-film script writing workshop at Gamalakhe library last Saturday.

The workshop was co-hosted by Izinqalabutho Development Organisation, Solly Wood films and the Ugu Film Festival.

Vala Zama of Inqalabutho said the youth showed great interest in film writing and producing.

“Many were surprised when they saw one of the films that was shot by Solly Wood Films in Gamalakhe and learnt a lot from guest speaker Senzo Zindela who told them about a film-writing career,” said Zama.

Senzo Zindela advised the youth to consider writing a short film script from the novels or books they read at school.

He said it is easy to apply for copyright permission to convert from a book to a short film.

Zama said the aim of the workshop was to introduce the culture of observing daily life and telling it to someone in a film.

“We all are from different cultures and somehow we want to embrace our arts and culture and tell our stories. We want the youth to learn how to do things for themselves instead of waiting for the government to provide them with jobs. We should meet the government half-way,” said Zama.

Stakeholders agreed to have a film festival at Gamalakhe in September when they will showcase the local talent.

Zama thanked the youth and staff of Izinqalabutho for the workshop.

“This day would not have been possible if it was not for our audience, the youth, the Izinqalabuthu staff and our partners Solly Wood Films and the Ugu Film Festival.”
