Alleged drug dealers arrested

TEN people appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on Friday for drug dealing and drug trafficking.

The group of men from Chatsworth, were arrested in Ramsgate in May last year when they tried to move 44 901 straws of heroin.

The drugs weighed eight kilograms and had a street value of R7 million.

Wesley Shanmugan (28), Duran Budhai (26), Felix Mufudza (28), Whisper James (25), Mustapha Mphepho (26), Vincent Dube (26), Michael Ali (29), Devine Mayora (26), Justin Gawan (21) and Adam Ebrahim (25) appeared in the regional court before Magistrate Johan Bester for the first time.

The group made their first appearance in Ramsgate Court in May 2015.

Budhai is out on bail, the others remain in custody.

The case was postponed to 11 April to enable time for accused one and two to negotiate a plea and sentence with the state. Accused three to 10 have applied for legal aid representation and are awaiting confirmation from various attorneys.
