ANC to hold its regional conference

THE African National Congress’ (ANC) Lower South Coast (LSC) conference is expected to go ahead at the Ugu Sport and Leisure this weekend after numerous postponements due to branch disputes. The long-awaited conference was supposed to have been held two months ago.

“They delayed the conference because we wanted to ensure that all issues are resolved. All those branches that did not complete audits will not take part in the conference,” said an anonymous source.

Regional party’s interim convener Nontembeko Booys said on Monday that the party was awaiting for the National Audit Committee to inform the leadership where minimum threshold to hold the provincial conference has been surpassed.

LSC is amongst three regions that were disbanded and managed by regional task teams.

Another ANC member who spoke to the Fever said the party understands that these problems can be overcome by a movement and members that do not lose hope because of difficulties… the ANC has and will always be driven by a conviction to resolve all problems in the best interest of the people.

The security cluster ministers are part of a task team formed in 2016 to deal with political murders in the province. A commission of inquiry that probed the murders wrapped up its work in March. It is not yet clear when the report will be released publicly.

The ANC Youth league has endorsed Xolani Luthuli as the party’s next chairperson with other members supporting Ugu Mayor Mondli Chiliza as the next chairperson.

ANC LSC spokesperson Selvan Chetty said: “The ANC Lower South Coast is currently in the process of being audited by the NEC.

“We expect a response from the ANC national office in the next few days as to their determination on our compliance and readiness for the regional conference to go ahead.”
