Appreciation for lifeguards

2018-12-13 06:03

AS South Africa Search & Rescue I observe the various beaches when I am in the vicinity to see where we can further offer our assistance. I can honestly say that I had the most amazing experience at Uvongo Beach on Saturday at approximately 12 noon.

An elderly gentlemen came walking from the shop side upon arrival and tripped, in the process hitting his head against the wall. I went over to see if I could assist him, and saw it bleeding profusely.

Another gentleman gave me a serviette as I wasn’t kitted to handle the situation at that point in time as I was there with my children. I applied pressure and assisted the gentleman to the lifeguard house. The lifeguards were monitoring the beach and when they spotted me two of them got up at exactly the same time that I waved at them. They came running over, assisting the gentleman and giving him the treatment he needed.

They handled it with such charisma, humbleness, and professionalism and yet not making him feel bad, as he ready did as he felt he inconvenienced everyone. They were friendly throughout the ordeal and very well-trained.

I would like to assure people that from a SA Search & Rescue point of view, but also a mother’s point of view, I would HIGHLY recommend this beach as you can have a day of fun knowing you are safe and well looked after by the amazing lifeguards monitoring this beachfront.

You guys were amazing and I thank you for proving your importance as people think lifeguards are merely there for sea rescues. You play such a valuable part in the community and are not thanked enough for the work you do and making it look so effortless. You are definitely an asset and I will definitely be heading to Uvongo again soon as I know that they care and we are safe in their hands.

SALUTE!
