“AWAKENED by Nature” is the title of well-known artist Diane Erasmus’s art exhibition which will be opening at the Artists’ Gallery in Ramsgate this month.

Art lovers are welcome to attend the opening on Sunday 20 December at 6pm and celebrate her new work with a glass of wine and nibbles. There is no entrance fee.

This exhibition is aptly entitled “Awakened by Nature” as Erasmus explains that she draws her inspiration primarily from the beauty of the natural world.

“I am totally captivated by the exquisite light and colours of the natural world. It just amazes me how colours constantly transform depending on the light - whether in the sea, mountain, river, sky or in a simple vase of flowers on my window sill. I attempt to capture just a glimpse of that balance of colour and light in my works”.

Her artworks have been described as creating a deep tranquil and serenity to the viewer – and her new works are both moody and calm. Erasmus explains that she has recently entered a “large” stage.

“Fortunately not in my girth, in canvas size.” She has enjoyed “going big”, which has freed her up to play with a larger palette knife and brush strokes.

Erasmus will be in attendance at the opening as well as the rest of the artists who make up the collective of eight top South African sculptors and painters at the gallery.

Artists include painters Anton Benzon and Rob Wareing, sculptors Marke Meyer and Michael Canadas, jewellery designer Gela Tölken, a Robert Badenhorst collection of Old Masters’ work and the new addition to the fold - Vince Read, whose medium is graphite.

Art lovers are welcome to pop in and chat about techniques, inspirations or simply take a quiet meander through the Gallery.

The exhibition runs until 20 January, 2016. - Supplied.
