LAST Thursday, the SAPS spoke to Hoërskool Suid-Natal Grade 11 pupils about the Sexual Offences Act as part of their orientation programme.

Detective Sergeant Shaun Pillay from the Port Shepstone FCS gave a talk about the Act itself as well as the consequences of committing sexual-related crimes.

Pupils were given the opportunity to ask questions and he explained how investigations are conducted as well as court procedures when such cases land on the court roll.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said it is important the youth are informed about these issues. Schools can contact communication liaison services on 039 688 1276 or 039 688 1352 if an awareness campaign is required.
