Beat the winter woes

2018-06-28 06:00

LAST week saw the start of our winter woes.

Someone or some group is striking against something or someone, which ultimately affects us all.No lights. No dinner. No security. No ... pick a topic and fill in the blanks. Easy. I was not that concerned about missing the Soccer World Cup opening match in Russia but it would have been a spectacle. How do we beat the “bank”, i.e. our prospective winter woes?

#Stock up with candles and place strategically next to mirrors and with a box of matches nearby.

#Eat tinned food if you have to. It is not so bad cold!

Make sure you have sealed off any sneaky cold gaps at doors and windows. A long rugby sock filled with cheap maize mix works brilliantly!

#Buy some real wool socks and keep your hands and feet warm. But don’t leave candles and other flammable items where they could make you end up as toast.

#Find something that you can do in the dark ... I leave that to your imagination.

#Remind yourself how lucky you are that you are not sleeping under a bridge on an empty stomach and that your family is safe (hope springs eternal).

It is not easy to look on the bright side but give it a chance.
