FROM a beautification project to an eyesore - that is what South Coast residents have to say about the paved pedestrian crossings in the Port Shepstone CBD.

The project, which was managed by the South Coast Development Agency in 2014, was meant to attract investors, retain existing jobs and businesses, create new work opportunities and attract tourists.

This was according to the former CEO of the agency, Gcina Mazibuko when it was an agency of the Hibiscus Coast Municipality, however, last July, the Ugu District Municipality took over with a newly appointed board.

Mazibuko said it was the first phase of the initiative and that the second phase would take place as soon as a budget was available.

However, the project seems to have taken a back seat and the condition of some of the paved intersections have deteriorated.

Attempts to obtain comment from the chairman of the Ugu South Coast Development Agency were in vain.
