YOU probably know by now about omega oils, essential fatty acids that are called essential because you have to get them from your diet, and that they are essential for your brain. A diet rich in oily fish, nuts, seeds and other foods high in omegas, other vitamins and minerals, helps to keep cognitive function sharp. Blueberries are another good brain food, as is avocado. Avocado contains a monounsaturated fat that contributes to the healthy blood flow that keeps brain function smooth. Avocado also helps to lower blood pressure.

Neurologists say hypertension (high blood pressure) is a major risk factor for cognitive decline that too often accompanies old age.

Pomegranate juice is another great cognitive boost, with potent antioxidant benefits to protect grey matter from free-radical damage.

In his brilliant The Better Brain Book, U.S. neurologist David Perlmutter says: “Probably no part of the body is more sensitive to the damage from free radicals as the brain.” Citrus fruits and vegetables are high on Perlmutter’s list of best brain foods because of their powerhouse antioxidant content. — Biznews.
