Best wishes to the Class of 2017

2017-11-02 06:00

UGU District Municipality has taken great interest in the improvement of education in the district and has implemented programmes to assist pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds and schools in rural communities to develop their level of education.

We have donated laptops and desks to rural schools to assist in broadening pupils’ knowledge beyond theory, and introduce computer studies in preparation for their higher education and careers.

Our municipality also has an annual programme where it awards bursaries for higher education to pupils that have performed exceptionally in Grade 12.

From Tuesday this week, Grade 12 pupils started their final examinations, and on behalf of the municipality and the district community, I wish them the best of luck.

As the municipality, we pledge our
support to our children to realise their
full potential and work even harder throughout the examination period, despite what-
ever challenges that may threaten their success.

As we have placed education at the apex of our priorities in moving our district forward. We also commit to ensuring that well performing pupils, who are not financially viable, will not be deprived of an opportunity to further their education.

We will ensure that between the district and local municipalities, pupils are assisted financially.

Through education we shall conquer the triple challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality.

I also express our gratitude to our teachers, our teacher unions, principals, their school management teams, school governing bodies, parents, the business community, politicians and stakeholders who have
participated in ensuring that our pupils receive quality education in an environment conducive for the promotion of a culture of learning and teaching.

We are confident the Grade 12 Class of 2017 will make our district proud and improve on last year’s pass rate.

The municipality also wishes well pupils in other grades as they also prepare for their final exams of the year.

Ugu District Municipality promotes working together to create an environment that is friendly, responsive, accountable, effective and efficient for our communities.
