A SMALL business incubator, SmartXchange, won the 2016 eLan Property Group KZN Top Business Award recently under the category, Community and Social Services.

Held at the Greyville Convention Centre in Durban, the awards celebrate successful KZN companies and organisations across the economic sectors in both the private and public arenas.

The awards offer an opportunity for all business sectors to meet, be inspired and showcase their achievements and innovations to their peers.

Centre manager, Fathima Sarigat, said the screening process focused on the impact of the company in the economic, environmental and social spheres in KwaZulu-Natal.

“Brand and reputation, stakeholder relations and goodwill, environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and quality of governance all played a major role in why we received this award,” she said.

This is in line with the King III King Code and Report on Corporate Governance which applies to all South African entities.

“When we got to the awards ceremony, all we knew at that stage was that we had been nominated. It was nerve wrecking,” she said.

“To hear our name being called was so exciting. We were elated and very proud to have won,” she added.

This is the third award SmartXchange has received of this nature under the KZN Top Business Portfolio.

The first award was received in 2013, powered by FNB, and the second award was received in 2015, which was powered by the eLan Property Group as per the 2016 awards.

“SmartXchange is grateful to the eLan Property Group as well as the KZN Top Business Portfolio and remains committed to delivering on the mandate of incubation excellence which is a contributor to community upliftment,” said Sarigat.
