THE Butterfly Cancer Care Foundation hosted a cancer awareness fund-raiser recently at Marburg Secondary themed “Embracing Life”.
The fund-raiser created awareness and raised funds to assist those affected and diagnosed with cancer.
Organiser Priscilla Moodley said some of the funds raised were donated to South Coast Hospice.
“Money was raised through ticket purchases and the first 100 tickets sold went to Hospice.
“An additional donation was given by a an anonymous donor who donated R1000.” said Pillay.
She said as part of the programme talks were given by a breast cancer survivor, and another by dietician Linda Stack.
“Testimonials were given by survivors and one of them was from Mavis Pillay.”
“On a lighter note, an auction was held for a universal cutting board that was won by a young bidder, Loubel Pillay. The funds raised at the auction went the foundation.”
Moodley said the foundation is still seeking volunteers to drive its purpose of spreading awareness and giving hope to cancer patients.
“Our motto is ‘Hands that serve and hearts to love’, therefore we do need extra hands so we can spread love to those who need it the most.”
