Cansa Relay For Life next month

2016-08-25 06:00

CANSA Relay for Life is on 10 to 11 September at the Suid-Natal Primêre Skool from 2pm.

Diane Saunders, community mobiliser at Cansa Port Shepstone, said Relay For Life is a unique event that offers everyone the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer.

“It represents the ‘hope’ that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who are fighting cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated,” she said.

Teams are formed and funds raised prior to the event.

“All the funds raised are dedicated to funding Cansa’s unique, integrated service within the community.”

The turnout for this event in the past has been amazing and she is hopeful that one will be bigger and better.

“This year’s theme is the ‘circus’ and teams are encouraged to dress up for the theme,” said Saunders.

Teams of between 10 and 15, can be made up of friends, family and corporates.

Team members will take turns in walking and running around the track for 12 hours.

“The goal is to keep one team member on the track at all times, because cancer never sleeps,” she said.

There will be other activities - camping-out, entertainment, food, games and community camaraderie.

Participants share a common purpose - the desire to help Cansa fight disease and support those affected.

Cost is R500 per team and R350 for youth teams.
