THREE men were arrested in the Bhobhoyi area on Friday evening in connection with a hi-jacking that took place in Ntabankulu in the Eastern Cape.

The vehicle was intercepted with the hijacked minibus in Bhobhoyi shortly before midnight on Friday. Port Shepstone SAPS spokesperson
Lieutenant Colonel Zandra Wiid said that the three men were found and they confiscated two pistols, two magazines and several rounds of ammunition and also impounded the stolen minibus.

“The driver (28) of the minibus was contacted at 8 pm in Ntabankhulu for a special request to take a passenger to Umzimkhulu as the caller wanted to attend a funeral in Umzimkhulu,” said Wiid.

“When the legitimate driver of the combi arrived at the pick-up point, he was confronted by the three suspects, tied up and thrown into his own combi. The suspects pointed him with firearms and later dumped him near Harding on the road,” said Wiid.

“A passing motorist came to his aid and the matter was reported to the Harding SAPS. The vehicle was intercepted by members from Port Shepstone 10111 call centre response vehicle, POP and the CSC,” said Wiid.

A balaclava, gloves and several sets of Eastern Cape number plates were also found inside the vehicle. Ntabankhulu SAPS will investigate a carjacking case and the suspects will appear in an Eastern Cape court soon. — Supplied.
