Coalition government in 2019

2018-06-14 06:02

SOUTH Africa could have a coalition government in the 2019 general elections. President Cyril Ramaphosa, Deputy President David Mabuza and ANC stalwart and veteran the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela made a public announcement at their voter registration stations, welcoming Julius Malema from the EFF and Bantu Holomisa (UDM) to the ANC. For the ANC to hold on to the government and power, it will need the EFF, who could be kingmaker come the 2019 general elections.

The present ANC is lacking leadership, support and futuristic ideas for the 2019 campaign. It needs to regain its former support from the major cities, towns and metros. The ANC will not want to form a coalition government come the 2019 general elections, thus the warm welcome call for Malema and Holomisa, who were ANC members but were expelled due to their ill-discipline. Malema and Holomisa stated that their duty is to root out corruption at the highest level in the government and never return to the ANC.Malema is a populist politician, and enjoys the support of the majority of students and unemployed citizens of SA. Minority groups are mindful of Malema. His political rhetoric, his vision and slogans are not welcomed by minority groups. With such a member in their party, the ANC might lose these voters come the 2019 elections.
