THE Rotary Club of Port Shepstone held its inaugural Coins for Charity fund-raiser last Saturday.

This unique event used a broad strip of double-sided tape placed across the main promotions court’s floor of the Southcoast Mall and Shelly Centre, including the placement of raised floor tiles of all the sponsor logos, along the length of the tape.

Rotary Port Shepstone said they were grateful to all main sponsors of the event.

Rotarians and Child Welfare Port Shepstone, along with other volunteers were on hand during the day, helping the public place their donations on the tape.

“The Rotary Club of Port Shepstone wishes to express its gratitude to Southcoast Mall, Shelly Centre, sponsors, residents and holiday makers for their tremendous response, supporting the worthy cause,” said event co-ordinator and Rotarian, Rowan D’Arcy.

He said the project was a great success, raising over R30 000 for Child Welfare Port Shepstone.

The funds will assist its Back2School programme, assisting needy children with school uniforms and stationary. Child Welfare Port Shepstone fund-raising manager, Sam Podmore said they are grateful for the wonderful support from Rotary Port Shepstone the stakeholders, the sponsors and the public that contributed on the day to the Smile Mile.

“You certainly have put a smile on many children’s faces as they head back to school next week,” said Podmore.
