Colonising Mars

2017-04-06 06:03

THOSE selected to colonise Mars will obviously be selected carefully and chosen for their set of skills best suited to survive on Mars.

I, on the other hand, would not have chosen to send a select few willing applicants as Mars is both a long trip and extremely hostile to life from Earth’s environment.

No, I would have taken the Australian colonisation approach but would only have sent the worst prison convicts on a one-way trip and kept the needed skills on Earth.

That way, an interesting Martian accent could develop and Mars could soon be fielding a formidable cricket team, but that would be mostly due to Mars having only 40% of Earth’s gravity and a very thin atmosphere.

We could offer our President Jacob Zuma as Martian president and see how long it takes him to build a Martian Nkandla-style homestead, and see how the lower gravity assists or hinders his charge dodging.
