MEGAN Du Plessis Special Needs Centre has been showered with blessings as they received a special donation of a 22 seater school bus to transport pupils to and from school and other venues.

Teacher at the school Lene Schnackenberg said she was speechless about the donation.

“It is difficult to put into words how thankful we are. When the phone-call came, we had goosebumps and tears running down our faces; we were speechless. The bus has come to ‘visit’ us, we enjoyed a short joy-ride. The bus service will operate from October 9, the first day of term four. Thank you Father for our bus and our many blessings,” said Schnackenberg.

Schnackenberg also expressed excitement about the school’s horse-riding programme, which takes place once a week, saying: “Therapeutic riding is very beneficial for children with special needs. It improves posture, balance and coordination, it stretches and strengthens muscle tone, helps the body relax and helps the children overcome fear. This is only possible due to your kind contributions. Without the generous financial donations from the community, we could never offer this service. Thank you,” said Schnackenberg. She said the learners are slowly but surely getting used to these very tall ponies, while some have even been brave enough to ride them.

The school reached that time of the year where drawings, plans, and lists are made for what the school needs and how it will benefit the children and young adults in their care.

“Our Senior Section will start on the first day of term one in 2019. This means that the Senior Section garden and classrooms need to be designed, developed, created and furnished by the end of November,” said Schnackenberg.
