THE R800 000 Sun Wild Coast Sun Sunshine Ladies Tour Challenge will go ahead as scheduled despite vandals wrecking a number of greens and other areas of the golf course.

Pictures of the greens went viral when shared by Sunshine Tour pro Michael Hollick on Sunday morning.

“Local community dug up the greens at the Wild Coast Sun last night. We were meant to be playing a Sunshine Tour event this week! Local community has just affected about R400 000 being spent in the area in fees to caddies, Clubhouse staff and tourism,” wrote Hollick on Twitter.

Sun International is wary of further attempts to disrupt the event.

The company issued a press statement saying “a group of individuals with spades damaged sections of the course including a number of the greens. There were no witnesses to the incident, but messages left on some of the course flags indicated that this was the beginning of further planned action.”

The Sunshine Tour, together with their partners, acted swiftly to assist the hosts in repairing the greens ahead of Wednesday’s start.
