Conservancy and rangers join forces

2016-10-06 06:00

THE Umbango River Conservancy will host its second annual trail run this weekend and this time the Port Shepstone Girl Guide Rangers will use the event as a fund-raiser.

Six rangers are raising funds to visit the Girl Guiding World Centre in London. They will leave on 8 July, 2017.

“So far the girls have managed to purchase their tickets, but they will need money for accommodation,” said leader Jolene Evans.

Evans said the girls have been working extremely hard to make this a reality.

“This teaches the rangers an important life skill - to set a goal and work hard to achieve it,” she said.

The Tandela Trail, which belongs to the conservancy, is a beautiful, picturesque trail that begins at Illovo Sugar grounds, runs along the Umzimkulu River, up into Band Farm Hills, around the Ugu dam, down Kulu Crete and back to the grounds.

Hikers, environmentalists, trail runners, nature lovers and the community are invited to support this event and make the rangers’ dream a reality.

Entry is R50 for adults and R20 for pupils.

Medals will be awarded to the first 300 home.
