Consider male circumcision

2017-11-09 06:00

THREE months ago I came across a campaign on Facebook promoting male circumcision and all the benefits being circumcised comes with. It stayed on my mind until two weeks ago when I decided to get the snip.

People get circumcised for many personal reasons, but I decided to do it after seeing statistics on how it decreases the chances of my wife getting the human papilloma virus, which may lead to ovarian cancer.

There are many other reasons for getting circumcised, including hygiene, cultural and as well as aesthetic reasons. It has also been proven that circumcised men have a 60% less chance of contracting HIV than uncircumcised men.

After making the appointment through the number that was provided, I was booked for the free procedure at Marburg Clinic last Saturday.

I thought I would be the only one there for circumcision, but it turned out there were 25 boys and men of all colours and ages nervously waiting for their turn.

To cut a long story short, the procedure was completely painless and was over in 25 minutes. I’m now sporting a new umshini wami and I will be recovering for the next six weeks.

I would like to encourage other males to consider getting circumcised and get in touch with their local clinic.
