Convenience store at garage robbed

A MARBURG garage was robbed by six armed men on Wednesday morning.

The men went into the convenience store at Fairways BP with firearms and took a small amount of cash from one of the tills. They then fled on foot.

“It is alleged that at 4.35am a group of six males, armed with hand guns, went to a convenience store at a petrol station in Marburg,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“They held up the cashiers and took a small amount of cash from the one till and casually walked out and fled on foot,” she added.

Allegations have surfaced that the response time to the incident from SAPS was poor and police only arrived about 90 minutes after the incident was reported. “The station commander of Port Shepstone, Brigadier Sandra Nala, will investigate the reason why police took so long to respond to the complainant,” said Wiid.

“It is unacceptable and this kind of behaviour by police members will not be tolerated, especially where serious crimes have taken place,” she added.

A business robbery case will be investigated. - Supplied.
