Decomposed body retrieved in Merlewood

2016-06-16 06:00

WHILE walking their dogs in Merlewood on Sunday evening, a group of boys stumbled upon a decomposed body.

According to police, the body appeared to have a rope around the neck.

The Port Shepstone Search and Rescue team were called to a scene.

Warrant Officer Francois Pretorius, Warrant Officer Marc Wiid, Warrant Officer Gabriel Nel and Warrant Officer Rommel da Rosa cleared a path through the bushes and retrieved the body.

“It was examined by forensic expert, Warrant Officer William Carthew,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

She added it was possible that the body could be that of a 56-year-old man who was reported missing by his family on 26 May.

“The necessary autopsy and identification will be done. An inquest docket was opened at Port Shepstone SAPS,” she said. - Supplied.
