THE first 2016 KZN Road Racing Championship at South Coast Dezzi Raceway on Saturday was a huge success, said organiser Bob West.

“Everything went as planned and there was lots of good racing in all classes,” he said.

The event attracted 74 entries. West said more racers were expected to enter, but couldn’t due to a national event at Red Star Raceway.

“These racers, about a dozen of them, will join us at our next meeting on 12 March,” he added.

This year organisers added the SuperGT class for the first time, which created a platform for the V8s and Rotary cars to perform.

“It was also their first time with us at this meeting,” he said.

The event’s WhatsApp group and Facebook page was on overdrive.

On Sunday, comments and compliments from spectators and competitors came pouring about what a great day it was.

“If anyone would like to be kept updated on our racing they are welcome to visit our Facebook page, KZN Road Racing Club,” said West.

He said the track at South Coast Dezzi Raceway was very technical and has the potential of creating top drivers and riders.

“All the competitors love the track and our sport is growing,” he added.

A new category will be added at the next meeting in March - The New Class Porsche Challenge.

The fastest times for the day for motorbikes was Malcolm Rudman in the Extreme Breakfast Class with a time of 1:21:063. The fastest time for a car was Neville Loosemore in the Super GT class with 1:21:665.
