Disappointed with garden service

2016-04-14 06:00

REGARDING service providers on the South Coast, I had a stressful experience with a garden service. My son in Australia wanted to do something nice and help me, so he contacted a garden service company he found on the internet in my area.

The owner of this company came to see the garden and I showed him exactly where and what sections I wanted left alone. He quoted my son by email to remove weeds throughout, cutting back vegetation, clearing pathways, removing alien plantation, cleaning up and the cartage of cuttings.

From that date on it was a series of cancellations and forgotten confirmed dates and times. Eventually he brought three men with slashers and two plastic rakes and left them.
He later came to fetch them, with the job being far from finished and said he would have to contact my son to charge him for another day. I didn’t want that and agreed to pay the two workers. He dropped them off again the following day, with a huge canvas bag to collect cuttings. This bag was useless because it had two slits at the bottom and everything fell through.

The next day he brought three men whom I paid and they managed to pile the cuttings on the driveway. He was paid by my son in full and on a higher quote than the original, yet he himself, paid for only one day’s labour and half of the cuttings were removed.

A truck came and took half the pile. I waited for the rest to be removed, but nothing happened. I contacted a truck driver and he came as soon as I phoned and was extremely efficient.

My garden looks like a tornado went through it. The weeds are thriving and there is wild grass on pathways but I have paid for five workers, food and removal of left cuttings, which I haven’t told my son about and spoil his kind gesture. This is all due to bad business management and service so often found on the South Coast by small businesses.
