Do the job properly, municipality

2016-10-06 06:00

SURELY the municipality should ensure that their workers, or whoever they employ to cut the verges and clean up neighbourhoods, are trained for the job.

My grounds sustained flood damage because the verge cutters blocked a storm-water drain with the cuttings, branches, dead leaves and mulch they are meant to dispose of responsibly. Most of this material, instead of being wasted and misused, could serve a good purpose by being carted away to some place where a compost heap could be made - it could be a source of income.

The same applies to the shocking standards of those employed to “repair” potholes. This too is illegally and customarily dumped in the bush and has also been disposed of down the drains I refer to. As a result my grounds are full of slices and chunks of tarmac. This is not by any means an isolated incident. This old tar too could be disposed of as builders’ rubble, which is often in demand.

The municipality really needs to ensure that their employees are trained to do acceptable work and maintain proper standards, and there is an obvious need for some responsible person to oversee, or at the very least, inspect the work done and to stop payment when the work is not done to proper specification.
