THE Southern Natal cricket union and KFC mini cricket hosted a youth development programme last Saturday at Port Shepstone country club.

U10 school cricket teams were invited to join the programme which was seen through by the Hollywoodbets Dolphins team.

The mini cricket development programme is aimed at teaching aspiring cricketers the basics of the sport, team participation and feeding their enthusiasm for the game. Stages of cricket phase from softball level to hardball level and then graduating to league cricket.

Mini cricket has been supported for many years and recently took centre stage again.

Earlier this year, Port Shepstone Primary School hosted U9 cricket matches as part of the Southern Natal Cricket union development programme to open up the programme on a larger scale, reviving mini cricket.

“We were thrilled with the success of this weekend’s programme, the turnout was great and we had so much support from parents. We are looking forward to turning the South Coast into a centre of excellence for mini cricket,” said Nirvana Manawar, the mini cricket co-ordinator.
