EXCITEMENT was at a fever pitch at the historic cricket match at Port Shepstone Country Club, where the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and VBK Knights clashed in a two-day T20 series from Tuesday.

The franchises face off for the first-time cricket matches sponsored by RotoTank.

The Durban side met the men from Bloemfontein in a T20 clash yesterday, allowing school pupils to watch their heroes in action, before the stars of both teams tee it up with locals on the golf course today. It was the homecoming match for Proteas and Dolphins all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo, from Gcilima, who attended Margate Primary.

Phehlukwayo had already played for the Proteas in all three formats and has produced a number of match winning performances against Australia to clinch the ODI series. Speaking to the Fever, Phuhlukwayo said he is excited to play on his home ground, adding that the organisers are trying to promote and develop cricket on the South Coast.

Organising committee chairperson Rudi Steyn said the match was the fundraiser for Port Shepstone Country Club’s cricket facilities.

“We’re very grateful that RotoTank has sponsored us together with the East Coast Radio. Our big goal is that we’re aiming to host an annual Dolphins event,” he said.
