Don’t litter anywhere

IT never ceases to amaze me that in whatever part of our great country we travel, wherever you have “stop and go’s” because of road works, you have pollution because of those who do not respect our environment and our country and discard litter out of their car, truck or taxi.

Why can they not keep their litter in their vehicle until they reach their destination, then discard it in the correct form or fashion?

I also ask the question - does a road works contractor, who is making a fortune out of a contract, not see the mess driving past it each day? Can they not be held responsible to clean up after others? Maybe this needs to be built into their contracts.

The next question is who would police this daily clean-up to ensure its done if it was built into the contractors contract? The correct solution would be to get to the source, i.e. those littering, however, we will agree that is one huge challenge.

The contractor’s staff see this rubbish and stand among it all day, albeit, as per the photo here their staff turn their backs on it and its obvious it doesn’t bother them as it is apparent they don’t have a interest in the environment.

This mess is daily and with heavy rains and/or strong winds it is sadly going to end up in the lovely river separating KwaZulu-Natal from the Eastern Cape at Port Edward just before the Wild Coast Sun Resort where major road works are taking place.

It looks like the contract and/or road works are going to be ongoing for a few months so one hell of a lot of pollution is going to pollute the river and eventually our ocean.
