Editorial comment

ANOTHER week and again, lives lost on our roads.

Our condolences go to the families of the young couple who were killed in a motorbike accident on Sunday at St Mikes.

It is about time authorities look into the issue of heavy duty trucks on Marine Drive as many readers have complained about the speed and recklessness of some of the drivers.

Most get on Marine Drive to avoid tolls on the freeway, but it would be wrong to ban them. Some regulation could be useful. There are towns in KZN that have banned heavy duty vehicles on certain roads, but then we live under different conditions on the South Coast.

The municipality merger and name change is almost here. It is only a matter of time before we see whether this will have an impact on investment in the region.

This should not be a problem, because intentions behind the process are good.
