What a bittersweet Heritage week.

While we should be in high spirits, celebrating our beautiful, colourful heritage as a country, we are also still recovering from the grim crime statistics released last week.

Many families are also grieving; such as the family of Nurse Cele, who was senselessly murdered; and, of course, the family of the young man who was fatally stabbed by his roommate at UniZulu.

The student was from the com- munity of Mtwalume along the South Coast.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to these families and anyone else who is mourning a loved one as a result of heinous criminal acts.

Our only hope in these trying times is to lean on one another for support, that includes close family and friends, and members of your community.

On that note, I do hope you have a wonderful Heritage week, and be safe over the long weekend.

Enjoy reading about the heritage of our very own South Coast in a special feature on page 9 this week.

Happy reading.
