Editor’s note

I HAD the privilege of spending some time with KZN poet Malika Ndlovu recently, and needless to say, it was nourishment for my soul.

Like most creatives in our country, she has battled with funding to nurture her art all her life, yet still manages to keep busy and has survived doing what she loves.

She reminded me of something important: do what lights your fire. This is why I was so happy to feature a young debut author in this week’s paper, Zikhona Mbala.

She, along with social entrepreneur Muhle Ndwalane, are doing what they love, and succeeding.

So many of us give up our passion for the sake of paying the bills. I hope more of us can find the courage to go after our dreams, do something that feeds our souls every single day, and watch the success grow into our lives in every sense, not just financially.

A special thank you to Michael Wright for your heart-wrenching letter, and an even bigger thank you to Hospice for your kindness and the care you give to those in need. Happy reading.
