Editor’s note

SEVERAL service delivery issues have come to the fore in the past week, which brings the efficiency of our municipality into the spotlight. Many residents have called or sent messages over e-mail and social media voicing their concerns and several of them have sadly lost hope that anything will ever be done about the issues at hand. With all the positive images that emerge in local media of councillors handing over new roads, or participating in clean-up campaigns, we can only hope that these other community concerns are not going to be neglected. While the good news must be celebrated, the people on the ground want to see tangible results in their own areas.

From pot holes to unkempt bushes, to fallen road signs, we want to see action from the powers that be. And of course, members of the community should continue to voice their grievances and complements alike.

Our condolences go out to the two nurses from eNtabeni clinic who lost their lives last Friday. May their families and colleagues find the strength to heal from this tragedy. I would also like to commend the local police and Lazer911, as well as members of the public, who displayed tremendous bravery and determination in chasing down criminals and recovering stolen goods in recent weeks. We need more of this in the approaching festive season to send out a strong message of zero tolerance to public offenders.
