End-of-school parties a worry

2017-10-12 06:00

ONCE again the school year is coming to an end. During the course of the year, a number of tragic incidents have taken place in various schools.

The most recent one was the killing of a deputy principal in his office and there was the bullying of children by fellow pupils, resulting in a child’s death.

At the end of the year, many pupils plan and prepare to close the year with a party. It is a big worry to find that our children could be at a party and be exposed to alcohol, drugs and sexual activities. It has happened to so many already. And they could be involved in drag racing and speeding on the roads at breakneck speeds with a group of wild friends, where an accident may claim or leave permanent injuries.

Know where your child is going and what he or she is doing. Be aware. Be alert and vigilant.

Going back to school is a major annual event in your child’s life. This means they need to be prepared for what is ahead of them in the year.

Experts in the field of education believe that the success of plans and efforts to improve children’s performance in school hinges upon parents’ active involvement in the process of their children’s education.

Lastly, keep in mind that success is a journey not a one-time event. And that all successes, big or small, are made of small successes that must be recognised and appreciated, one piece at a time.
