ON Tuesday morning a roadblock was set up at the Rethman Drive traffic light intersection in Umtentweni. SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the majority of the officers at the roadblock were female and were from the SAPS as well as Ray Nkoyeni Municipality Law Enforcement Department.

Port Shepstone SAPS station commander Brigadier Sandra Nala was in charge of the roadblock.

“A number of tickets were issued for various traffic violations. One minibus taxi was suspended as it was discovered that instead of transporting 13 people, extra seats were installed to carry 15.

“The vehicle also had two smooth back tyres making it unroadworthy,” said Wiid.

She said this was an initiative to promote Women’s Month. - Supplied.
