IT was all fun in the sun at the Sardine MTB Race and Trail Run in Port Edward last Sunday.

Families came to participate and cheer those taking part. The Sardine MTB Race and Trail Run started and ended at Port Edward beach and was the first of the five-leg South Coast Fever MTB Series 2017.

The theme of the race was “desert” and riders rode through banana and macademia nut farms as well as the Red Desert, the world’s smallest desert.

The next race will be the Ingeli Forest MTB on July 30, followed by the Sappi Scottburg MTB Race on August 30, The Wild Coast Sun MTB Challenge on October 28 and the Lake Eland Quattro Classic on November 12.

The male 45km mountain bike race was won by Andrew Hill in 1:54:37, followed by Tyronne White in 1:59:00 in second place and Bryan Powell in third at 1:59:02.

In the women’s 45km race, Hayley Smith was first in 2:14:53, followed by Natalie Bergstrom in 2:17:52 and Megan Bircher in third place at 2:22:27.
